The soundtrack debuted in the #1 position on the Billboard’s Hot 200 chart,
with 175 thousand copies sold in its first week, and 100 thousand digital
copies sold, thus making it the highest-selling movie soundtrack in one week in
digital history. It charted in other countries as well, such as Ireland,
France, New Zealand, and Canada.
Originally,
the score for the film was supposed to be composed by Danny Elfman and T-Bone
Burnett, but due to scheduling divergences, Elfman was replaced by James Norton
Howard. The score was released on March 26, 2012. Arcade Fire contributed to
the score as well. The track “Horn of Plenty” was used as the Capital’s theme.
Burnett also worked to produce songs on the film’s soundtrack.
